The novels which spring to my mind are the Mary Renault books about Alexander the Great and ancient Greece, and Robert Graves' "I, Claudius" books. (And, of course, there's the BBC mini-series based on "I, Claudius," which offers plenty of soap-operatic and -- for the most part -- historically accurate entertainment.)
Have fun!

I'm keen to incorporate historical literature into the syllabus. I'm also a bit out of my element as ancient history is not my forte. Does anyone care to recommend a historical novel that deals with the world prior to the 1400s? I have a copy on Ages of Bronze on order but, beyond that, I don't know where to begin.
