Here is a small new book for early readers, but it's an excellent story around a real event - a still remembered-blizzard in NEbraska..
The Schoolchildren's Blizzard (CArolrhoda) by Marty Figley
The one-room school house begins to cave in as the winds blow harder. The young teacher ties all the children together with a rope and leads them through the blizzard to her home.
