Thanks so much Sako- What do you know about the different sub groups of manga-- I know of shoujo for girls, and shonen for boys... What's that all about?
There is so muc to talk about related to gender and sexuality on both american comics and GN's and manga, and it seems like the cultural differences are really important to know about before we start thinking about what is pro-girl, etc.
I would throw out this site as a fantastic resource for women's issues in comics: www.sequentialtart.com
They have a nice message board in which they are, as we type, discussing some issues that relate to our discussion, including issues of transalation in manga, hair color as symbol, absence of women as creators and characters....
