I'm just wondering about what seems to be a new trend in middlegrade (and possibly YA) novels, what I'll call the "mini-chapter", as seen in The Last Part First and Olive's Ocean (also in Keeper of the Night, an ALA best book). Sometimes these chapters are no more than a paragraph. To me, they often seem abritrary or for stylistic effect alone . I'd like to know what CCBC folks think about this.
