Having read it aloud close to a dozen times now--laughing and crying through each of those experiences--I can assuredly state that THE LAND is one of my ten all-time favorite YAs. It should have gotten the kind of recognition from both the Newbery and Printz committees that HOUSE OF THE SCORPION did.
