In a message dated 2/1/2004 1:23:45 AM Central Standard Time, ccbc-net at ccbc.education.wisc.edu writes: Gerstein's book can be read as a fabulous feat by an unusual individual

On a dissenting note: I didn't see this as a "fabulous feat," but a foolhardy, dare?vil, illegal act, that is glorified and held up as a dubious model for children. Shrug.

The art work is certainly breathtaking in its perspectives and I shiver when I see Petit lying on that wire and I'm told he stayed out there for an hour
(Incredible! Foolhardy! One slip and it would have been a very different story.). But it's not something that I would want children to imitate, admire, or emulate.

Yes, it mentions that Petit was arrested and had to do community service, but the text remains neutral, or slightly approving (maybe just by the default of writing the story), rather than censuring his actions. I object to the story itself, and question its suitablility for kids.
