Lisa, I never got to chime in last month, but I must say that I am THRILLED your readers read Chig and the Second Spread (by Gwenyth Swain). I enjoyed Chig very much and have successfully recommended it to a number of children. I also was quite taken with Ghost Girl: A Blue Ridge Mountain Story (by Delia Ray).

I read The Tale of Despereaux to my class and I have to say it was one of the best received read alouds ever. Quiet little Merritt said, "I am mad that is over! I never wanted that book to end." Usually I read for the last 25 minutes of each school day, but, for Despereaux, I would hear them hurrying each other through their snack so they could add a few minutes. I do not think anyone will ever forget the word "perfidy." Robin
