Alison Uttley?s ?A Traveller in Time? is my all time favourite time travel book, and comes close to being my all time favourite book of all. I first read it in late primary school (year 5) and continued to read it with great pleasure through high school and still re-read it every couple of years. It?s about a young woman (I suppose she?s 13 or 14?) who has ?second sight?
? she is staying with relatives in their country house and travels back in time to the period in which Mary Queen of Scots was held imprisoned by Elizabeth 1st. The plot revolves around a plot to free Mary and put her on the throne in place of Elizabeth. It?s exciting, romantic, unbelievably atmospheric and just wonderful! (It also has my favourite last sentence of any novel, except for maybe The Great Gatsby.)
