Distance Education Workshops and Classes
Award-Winning Books for Children and Young Adults is an ITV (interactive video) session on Wednesay, January 14, 3:45-5 p.m., highlighting the American Library Association (ALA) award-winning books announced the previous Monday, January 12, including the Newbery, Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Belpre, Printz, Sibert, Batchelder and other titles. This course is being offered through the Four Lakes Distance Education Network in conjunction with other distance education networks across Wisconsin. Selected books from CCBC Choices 2004, the best-of-the-year list of the Cooperative Children's Book Center, will also be featured. What's New in Young Adult Literature is an online class being taught March 1$, 2004, by CCBC Librarians Kathleen T. Horning, Merri V. Lindgren, Hollis Rudiger, and Megan Schliesman. This online continuing education course will examine recent trends in literature for ages 12, focusing on books published since 1999. New authors and illustrators, multicultural literature, awards and distinctions, and current issues in book evaluation and selection will be highlighted as we look at outstanding new books in all genres, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and graphic novels. There are no graded papers or exams. This class is offered through the Continuing Education Services of the UW-Madison School of Library and Information Studies. Fee:
