The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by EnglishmanMark Haddon is my favourite book of 2003. This is a virtuoso piece of storytelling. Christopher is fifteen, he has Asperger's syndrome, loves mathematics, hates brown or yellow food, and reads Arthur Conan Doyle. Haddon's book is structured with real maturity and with with and invention. The book uses graphics, maths equations and charts, since Christorpher is nathing if not rational in his pursuit of the truth about the killer of his neighbour's dog. Of course this death is a set-up to explore other things, but it drives the plot approprioately.
The Curious Incident of theDog In the Night-time is an extraordinary book. I can't believe that more people haven't listed it as the favourites. Neve mind, you will be hearing about the story a lot more in the future. The film rights were snapped upbe the company that makes the Harry Potter films.
