Hello Mooners!

The Fairfield County Children's Librarians Roundtable held a Mock Newbery discussion today at the Stratford Library. The 10 nominees were: The Canning Season by Polly Horvath (Farrar, Straus, Giroux) The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau (Random House) Colibri by Ann Cameron (FSG) Granny Torrelli Makes Soup by Sharon Creech (HarperCollins) Jackie's Wild Seattle by Will Hobbs (HarperCollins) The Last Treasure by Janet S. Anderson (Dutton) Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli (Knopf) The River Between Us by Richard Peck (Dial) Tadpole by Ruth White (FSG) The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo (Candlewick)

17 librarians broke into 3 smaller groups and discussed the books. Then we met together, reviewed some of the positive and negative comments, and voted. 3 books rose to the top, and after a second ballot, we got these results:

Winner: The River Between Us Honor Books: Colibri
              The Tale of Despereaux

Thanks to everyone who partiicpated! A lot of great points were brought up during the discussions, which will help me next month when I am deliberating with my fellow Newbery members.
