I always get excited when I find a very funny children's book, particularly picture books. I give out my own Robbie Award for the funniest picture books of the year
(someday I may even notify the winners). I'm still pouring over titles but the leading candidate so far is Mo Willems' Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! Try reading it aloud to a group of kids and watch their reactions.
I'm also partial to Kevin O'Malley's quietly humorous Straight to the Pole. That was me when I was that age - the leading role in big, backyard dramas.
