Two other books have come to mind (that's the problem with reading books at the start of the year, by the end of the year you can't remember when you read them).

DEAD GIRLS DON'T WRITE LETTERS by Gail Giles I found this a powerful follow up to SHATTERING GLASS. I do have a taste for short, sharply plotted and written novels. This one certainly delivers the goods, so to speak. And I think one of the hardest things to write is a "good" ambiguous ending. An ending that leaves you with enough clues that you think you can figure it out on your own...but you're not quite sure.

DOLL by Nicky Singer

A follow-up novel to FEATHER BOY, this one also gently weaves fantasy with reality. There's a very musical eloquence to the prose in this book and a haunting eerieness to the idea of a doll who controls a little girl.
