I have had many favorites this year but the ones that really stand out are
A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly - An amazingly detailed work of historical fiction, a work in this genre to be shared with high school readers, for a change
Begging for Change by Sharon Flake- A sequel as strong if not stronger than the original
Freedom Roads by Joyce Hansen and Gary McGowan - Manages to bring something new to the discussion of the Underground Railroad
The Wright Sister by Richard Maurer - Engaging look at the behind the scenes lives of the Wright family.
Out of Control by A.M. Jenkins - Jenkins takes the standard YA "bad boy" novel and makes the reader care about a rather unlikeable character. Found myself thinking about this book long after I finished.
