Hands down, my favorite of the year was The First Part Last by Angela Johnson - a touching, heartfelt look at a teenage father that is realistically and beautifully written in short, spare sentences that hold great depth. The love that Bobby has for his baby daughter comes through clearly, but also his struggles to raise her when he himself is only 16 years old. A wonderful book that I hope will get both the Printz and Coretta Scott King awards!
