I am also quite taken with Tadpole. I found it quite satisfying. Of course, all comes together as openly foreshadowed, but in ways that seem believable for the characters. Every now and then it is nice to have a happily ever after ending for characters that deserve it. I thought the voice was credible and most appealing. The search for what might be unique or special about yourself, the strength of a loving family pulling together, and the ability to look beyond miserable circumstances to a more hopeful future are all meaningful themes beyond the rural southern setting. Many of the titles mentioned so far are on my favorites list:
Keeper of the Night, Tale of Despereaux, City of Ember, Inkheart, and Boy Meets Boy, especially.
One title not mentioned by list members, and left a quiet but long-lasting impression is
Ruth White's TADPOLE.
I appreciate White's skillful prose and her ability to present sympathetic and multi?ceted characters populating the story. I hope it will gain some recognition somewhere.
