Another book on the California coast is Farewell to Manzanar: A True Story of Japanese American Experience During and After the World War II Internment by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston, James D. Houston. This young adult book chronicles a family's internment at the time the protagonist is growing up and facing other typical adolescent insecurities. Told from a child's point of view, it contrasts nicely with Snow Falling on Cedars.
