Thank you to Cassie Wilson to getting our October discussion on Literature of Community/Community through Literature started.

As Cassie's has already noted in her description of "Spitting Image," which is about relationships within a town, and "Tadpole," which is about the community of family, the concept of community is a multifaceted one, and therefore an extremely rich one to explore.

Let's spend the first half of the month sharing books that underscore various aspects of community, whether that community is a physical/geographic place or an idea/ideal rooted in human relationships, whether it is about friends and acquantainces or the community of family, whether it is about local or global connections.

What other aspects of community can you think of, and what books do you turn to to highlight the many ways community is defined?

In the second half of October, we'll turn to the idea of building community--in a library, classroom, or other setting--through books. We'll ask you to share your experiences using literture to create a sense of community.
