I'm so glad Judy Enderle brought up CITY OF EMBER by Jeanne DuPrau, published by Random House.
This is one of those tell-everyone-you-know?out-it books that has so much to say, so many layers for contemplation...and all within the framework of a compulsively readable story and with characters that will make your heart and mind expand by allowing them in.
One other aspect of community that the book touches upon is how sometimes the larger community can be steeped in such myopia and fear...and it takes the strength of a few brave individuals to see through the haze and bring the community back into focus.
Enjoying the discussion...
Nancy
