This month: Literature on Community/Community through Literature
From Paul Fleischman's Seedfolks to Shirley Hughes's Trotter Street stories to works by Walter Dean Myers, George Ancona and others, many different portrayals of
"community" can be found in literature for children and young adults. We'll take a look at books that explore the concept of community in October. In the second part of the month, we'll also invite your ideas on how you use literature in the classroom or library setting to help create a sense of community.
November 2003: Coming of Age
One of the classic themes in literature for older children and teens is coming of age. In November, we'll look at coming of age stories, inviting you to share your favorites, and to also consider whether the coming of age novel has changed over the past few decades and, if so, how.
December 2003: Favorites of the Year
Each December, we invite members of the CCBC-Net community to share their favorite children's and young adult titles of the current publishing year. What books stand out for you in 2003?
