I know I'm showing my age, but in the forties the artist-author Kate Seredy published a book called A Tree for Peter, in which a young boy transformed a slum neighborhood by planting a tree. I don't know how well the story might have aged
(sentimental by today's standards?) but if you can find the book, its pictures will ensure that your search was not in vain. Thanks for steering me to Seedfolks. I'll have to look it up.
