In celebrating community, I would like to sing the praises of Habibi by Naomi Shibab Nye. This modern day Romeo and Juliet story takes place in Palestine. A second-generation Palestinian-American returns with her family to her father's homeland only to find herself smitten with a handsome Jewish boy. Habibi provides readers with an intimate understanding of the relationships along the West Bank. While this is far from the traditional take on "community," the story provides hope for peace among the next generation.
