I also enjoyed City of Ember and it reminded me of two other books that, although each unique in many ways, had several similarities: Downsiders by Schusterman and Gregor the Overlander by Collins. All three look at communities that exist underground in parallel but very different worlds. It would be interesting to look at these three as a group and compare/contrast the differing visions of what a community underground would need to survive and organize themselves and how their problems/issues are resolved.
