Hi. I'd like to invite the CCBC-NET community to see and hear Vera B. Williams in the movies I made of her at studio in lower New York a month after September 11th, 2001. She's an amazing woman with a remarkable gift for creating characters that radiate love and reality that I've never seen elsewhere. It is truly appropriate that she is America's representative for the Hans Christian Andersen medal.
The movies that you can see (linked to below) aren't for public play yet, but I'm comfortable sharing them with the CCBC-NET community. One movie
(4-minutes long) reviews her approach towards composition, shows original illustrations and dummies for Amber Was Brave, Essie Was Smart, and reveals her feelings about quite a few of her titles. The second movie (2 minutes) allows you to see her read two of the poems from Amber Was Brave, Essie Was Smart: The story of Amber and Essie told here in POEMS and Pictures
(Greenwillow / HarperCollins, 2001).
To watch this, all you need is Quick Time (version 4.0 or better) or Windows Media Player 7.1 to view it. Just select the appropriate link below to launch the movie in your Internet browser. Choosing Dial-up gives a tiny postage stamp version but works on 56k modems, and Broadband works where ever you have high-speed access.
