I think Vera Williams' work is marked by her startlingly keen ability to present a simple, straightforward child's eye view of the world. Melody Allen's comment about the importance of relationships that are "close at hand" also seems right on to me-?ter all, the close at hand, and the present moment, is what children (especially very young children) are most concerned with.
