Had to chuckle...just had to while reading Nancy's post. Wouldn't Byatt and Bloom have a fit if they knew there's a movement at foot trying nominate J.K. Rowling for the Nobel Prize in Literature????
I stumbled upon this idea and have posted it to the CCF site: http://www.childrencomefirst.com/cms/rowlingnobelprize.shtml
Why not??? I agree w/Downey's argument. No one (at least in recent history if not ever) has done more for children's reading than Rowling. My hat's off to this amazing person who's made readers out of nonreaders -- beginning w/my own son and the countless kids I come in contact with at the schools I serve. Wouldn't that be something? Wow!
I know this list has quite a prestigious membership...are any of you qualified (as per the Nobel Committee's requirements) to nominate Rowling? You'd be doing millions a favor by acknowledging the work of an author who's enriched the lives of us all.
