I would hope most folk understand that in my various exchanges, I have never suggested, as Judith has said I have...that an editor is entirely hands off. What I have said is a book belongs to the writer and he/she agrees to revise/rethink this or that...or disagrees, and an editor must respect the writer's decision...the book, after all, belongs to the writer.
