I just want to clarify that this was not something that I read -- I was at the press conference that Rowling gave and she was talking about the writing and editing process. She had been asked very specifically how much editing had been done on the book and my post was a paraphrase of the answer Rowling gave. This was not a statement about the differences between British and American editions. While I appreciate Arthur's comments of this morning, my personal feeling after finishing this fifth book is still that this is a text not as carefully edited as many of the other children and young adult books that I have read in recent months. I don't say this lightly or with any intention to insult writer or editor but I am basing this on the fact that I read nearly 200 children and young adult novels a year in my work as a reviewer. I won't go into detail about the critical issues I have with Phoenix as we're ending our discussion here but I have reviewed the book for Books in Canada and would be happy to send my review to those interested.
