Although I usually agree with Monica, this time I differ from her point of view. Yes, read the usual bedtime stories to your five year old 364 days a year, and perhaps even around 8:00-9:00 p.m. next Friday. But isn't your excitement and the fact that you will stay up to visit a bookstore at midnight for a special book something to share with your children even at age 5? Isn't it something they will remember forever even if they don't understand the particular book at the moment? They will surely notice how much reading means to you and thus to them. They will certainly see that books are fun and look forward to reading or listening to the book in the future.
Besides, I didn't understand Winnie-the-Pooh until college.
Peace, Cathy
