I thought you all might like to know that Elmhurst College awarded Lois Lowry an honorary degree (Doctor of Humane Letters) at our commencement on Sunday, June 2. She was also our commencement speaker and gave the best commencement address I have every heard entitled "Looking Forward".
We had a grand reception for her at the library on Sunday morning attended by our librarians, education faculty, and a good representation of students (not bad for Sunday morning after the semester is over). It was a glorious day, the students were thrilled with a commencement speaker that they had heard of, and many of my faculty colleagues gained a new respect for children's literature.
What a great experience!
