Hi all,
I am a long time lurker but am now moved to put in my two cents worth. I am a librarian in a k-5 school and could not agree more with Monicas message. Especially about the 5 year olds! I thoroughly enjoy Harry Potter, but no one needs to be reading these books to 5 year olds; there are too many excellent age appropriate books these kids should be hearing. At the beginning of each school year, I spend several weeks reading the classic fairy tales and Mother Goose to the kindergarten classes because so many of them have not been exposed to these. And this is a solid middle class school with mostly involved parents.
Thanks to all for all the interesting discussions I've followed throught the years.
