I cannot afford to buy books at this point in my life, BUT after reading
"The Space Between Our Footsteps," by Naomi Nye, I went to Bookland and bought the book as an anniversary gift for a great friend and fellow librarian.
Her introductory essay, which is a jewel in itself, never mine (pun) the other gems in the anthology, is worth the read itself. In that essay, the Palestinian-American author and lover of poets/poetry informs us that the English word for anthology
"comes from the Greek for 'gathering of flowers.'"
So, it seems as if we've been digging in the garden of Muse-ical delights all April, before the May flowers......
For Memorial Day, I would recommend (getting back to the war/poetry discussion at the beginning of the month) "In Flanders Field," by Linda Granfield. Just marvelous. Moving, informative, and marvelous... Shalom, Walter Skold. Free Brunswick, Maine. (free is an adjective here, not a verb!)
