All this worry about what is age appropriate regarding sex reminds me of when I was speaking at a middle school about my book Night Kites. This is a novel about AIDS, with a male homosexual protagonist. When I finished speaking I asked for questions from the audience. A young bespectacled kid around eleven (he looked like Henry Potter) asked me if my main character who had AIDS had had anal sex with another male. I was a bit flustered because these were not high school age kids so I answered,
"Well, certainly that was an option."
The boy who asked the question then asked, "What is an option?"
