"M.T. Anderson won the Young Adult Fiction award for his novel "Feed", in which the teenage narrator travels to the moon for spring break. He cited the importance of literature for teens in a particularly difficult and confusing time.
"We need to give children complicated narratives to help them find out how the world works and who they might be," Anderson said.
The awards culminated the [Los Angeles] Times' two?y Festival of Books, which attracted 170,000 people to the UCLA campus.
