I used HEART TO HEART with an independent study high school student this spring. I had her read the book, choose her three favorite poem/picture combinations, and explain why she liked them. Then I had her choose three poems from Garrison Keillor's GOOD POEMS, find three pictures online to illustrate them, and explain why these poems/pictures worked together. The student did a great job and said she is inspired to write poetry herself after reading so many "approachable" poems she felt related to her thoughts and emotions. From HEART TO HEART, the student's favorite combination was the painting "Poppy", by Georgia O'Keeffe, and the poem "The Poppy of Georgia O'Keeffe", by Janine Pommy Vega. Love to see another book like this.
