I would like to plug "Ragged Robin: poems from A to Z" by James Reeves originally released in 1961 and illustrated by Emma Chichester Clark in 1990. I used to teach preschoolers and as I read this book of verses, I could see a teacher extending them with fun activities. A good example might be his poem
"Paper" in which he describes all the great uses for paper from a picture book, to wrapping paper, money, writing letters and paper boats. A whole unit could happen around the uses of paper... origami, paper mache, letter writing, poetry writing on and on.... A teacher/librarian could take a poem a week read it aloud every day and do some great art, language, fun activities... it's really that versatile.
