Illustrated Poetry

Some years ago, I wrote an article about illustration of poetry. I deplored it then and deplore it now. The article appeared in "Top of the News" or "Joys."

As for the Jeffers' "Stomping on Robert Frost," it received enormous amounts of comment especially at a Notable Children's Book Comm. when Pyllis Van Orden chaired. Much of the discussion was negative, to the great horror of the audience. Later, a publisher came up to me and congratulated a very nervous me for "sticking to my guns" on what I called,
"an obscenity." I have not changed my opinion on this, either. Ms. Tobin's E-mail seems like an echo of the discussion one winter day in Washington, D.C.
