I just read "Stop Pretending: what happened when my big sister went crazy" by Sonya Sones. This novel in poetry form addresses mental illness and its effect on the whole family unit. The thirteen-year-old narrator relates the horror of her nineteen-year old sister's nervous breakdown and hospitalization on a psychiatric ward. Kirkus Reviews recommends this for ages 10, however I think that 10 may bit a bit young and would opt of an older age group. We have it in our high school library.
