I run a small but active storyhour, and usually have a difficult time keeping the interest of all the children (preschool). Recently, I read some of Jack Prelutsky's poems from The Dragons are Singing Tonight, and they loved them! Prelutsky's poems are humorous enough to get the kids ecited, but they are also beautifully writen, each one is it's one story. The mix of different poetry styles, really helps keep the kids guessing! My storyhour also enjoys his Gargoyle on the Roof.
Another fun picture book in a rhyming pattern is a new Humpty Dumpty by Daniel Kirk. It is predictable, but a different enough take on the traditional story to keep the children involved.
