I always enjoy the discussions on CCBC. Related to the recent war/peace thread, I'd like to offer two of my picture book favorites on the subjects. The first is Leo Lionni's The Alphabet Tree, originally published in 1968, which uses an imaginative way to show children who are just beginning to read the power of words. The book ends with a caterpillar taking the message created by the leaves of the Alphabet Tree-PEACE ON EARTH AND GOODWILL TO ALL MEN-to the president.

My other favorite is The Butter Battle Book by Dr. Seuss.
