War and young children (part 2)

Sara, Judith, and all,

Political science tells us that children inherit their poltical views and attitudes from their parents, and my experience teaching American politics in fifth grade bears this out.

Children who are protesting (or advocating) war at such an early age are not reflecting independent thought, but rather mimicking that of their parents or guardians. I'm not trying to discourage efforts to broaden the worldview of children or efforts to develop critical thinking faculties at an early age; I believe strongly in both. I just want to underscore the fact that the beliefs and attitudes of parents remains of paramount importance and very formative in the way a young person views the world, and I believe this was the point the original poster was trying to get across.

Jonathan
