Bronx Masquerade

I admire the ideals and the sentiment of "Bronx Masquerade," but felt it was a little too contrived to be called an excellent novel. The neatly diversified students, each with a special talent that they hide, letting it all shine through with poems...it was all a little too kids-from?me for me. Still, once you're into the idealized reality of the novel, it works, and I think teen readers will be less bothered (or not at all) by the artificiality that put me off at first. It reminded me a lot of Myers' "Handbook for Boys:" neither book is at all subtle about its message, but both get it across in interesting and thought provoking ways.
