I absolutely loved this book. It tackled meaty issues, but it wasn't didictic at all. The care Chambers took with the writing showed. (I read somewhere it took him years to write this book.) I've included it in a handout touting Historical Fiction for High School Students. This is a book for mature high school students who are good readers - who like meaty books, both historical and contemporary. It's not for everyone, but that's okay - literary fiction, by it's definition, is not for everyone. While there were many other more popular titles in YA that were good and could have been considered for the Printz, Postcards was the outstanding choice. I'm very happy it won because I think the award should stand for
"excellence."
