I liked the parallel adults too because I believe it takes people a lot longer to grow up than most people admit. I thought Hoot was funny and did a pretty good job introducing the different areas affected by preservation of owls, with even a passing mention of the enormous amount of paperwork involved. It was simpler than the adult novels I've read of Hiaasen's, and included more basically well intentioned people.
