Dean, you've put your finger on the very thing that I think makes many people uncomfortable, I think. That is, that Gantos is popular with a much younger audience for his fiction and the assumption is often made that authors' memoirs/autobiographies appeal to the same audience as the one for which they typically write.

 And Jack Gantos, himself, is quite adamant that it's for that older audience, that it should not be in libraries next to the Joey Pigzas and Jack Henrys.
