I wanted to comment on the predictability issue in Crispin, a book I very much enjoyed and was happy to see get the Medal. My impression was that readers were expected to start thinking Lord F. was Crispin's father, at least those readers familiar with this kind of orphan?venture story. The unpredictable part was that, rather than the cliched ending of Crispin reclaiming his birthright & finding a place in a rich, powerful family, he ends up rejecting that and choosing his own family, so to speak, by staying with Bear.
