Hole in my life

I agree that Hole in My Life is a YA book, not for children. But, keep in mind that the award can go to any book published for children up to age 14. Is Hole in My Life the book for every 12 year old to read, probably not. But I do think there are some 12, 13, and 14 year olds that can handle it. Why is it o.k. to have children reading about nazi deathcamps, but not about drug culture?
