We've had some discussion of the Newbery Honor books already, particularly "The House of the Scorpion" by nancy Farmer. And there's also been some discussion of the other four titles: "Surviving the Applewhites" by Stephanie Tolan, "Pictures of Hollis Woods" by Patricia Reilly Giff, "A Corner of the Universe" by Ann M. Martin, and "Hoot" by Carl Hiassen.
When Megan Schliesman and I were speaking at the Wisconsin State Reading Association in Milwaukee two weeks ago, "Hoot" was definitely the book that people were most curious about, most likely because of Hiaasen's adult following. Not every adult author is able to make the transition to children's literature. Do you think Hiaasen succeeds?
Please feel free to continue discussing any and all of the Newbery honor books, along with Avi's "Crispin."
