I think HOLE IN MY LIFE is clearly beyond the intended audience for the Sibert. Sure, a fourteen-year old would read it, but one could make that argument about any young adult book, and if that's the case, why not just admit that the award is for up to age eighteen.
I think it's a fine Sibert Honor and an even better Printz Honor. I mean, I certainly don't think HOLE IN MY LIFE is any more YA than PEDRO AND ME and, if I remember right, that took virtually no criticism for being a YA book.
