I was one of the few that went CRAZY and jumped out of my seat at the press conference when this book won. I don't work with picture books on a daily basis but when I had a chance to see this book, I kept thinking about it and mentioning it to others that it has really great art! I don't have a copy at hand to look at it again after the announcement but the one thing that stuck in my mind was the flow and motion of the illustration from page to page. I think Rohmann got picture book "right!"
Although text is not what wins a book a Caldecott, I appreciate the simple story where a bumbling dare devil is valued as "My Friend" without judgement.
(It actually reminds me of the incredible friendship and loyalty in Up on Cloud Nine.)
